Ahmed Maher ( Arabic أحمد ماهر, DMG Aḥmad Māhir ; * December 2, 1980 in Alexandria ), alongside Israa Abdel Fattah, is one of the founders of the April 6 youth movement and a prominent participant in the 2011 revolution in Egypt .

Life

He worked for a construction company in Cairo . After April 6, 2008, he organized several demonstrations. However, his efforts were hampered by the Egyptian security forces and internal differences within the movement. In June 2010 he helped organize a protest against the murder of blogger Khaled Said . Maher supported a possible presidency of Mohammed el-Baradei .

After the Egyptian military coup in July 2013, triggering a state crisis , Maher and two other activists of the movement were sentenced to three years in prison in December 2013 for violating the right to demonstrate.
