Ahmed Mansour (also Ahmed Mansur; Arabic أحمد منصور, DMG Aḥmad Manṣūr ; * July 16, 1962 ) is an Egyptian-British television journalist for the Arab news channel Al Jazeera . Mansour is in the Arabic-speaking world for his interview showبلا حدود / Bilā Ḥudūd  / 'Without borders' known. He is considered a sympathizer of the Sunni-Islamist Muslim Brotherhood . Due to a requested by Egypt arrest warrant, he was on 20 June 2015 at Berlin-Tegel airport in custody pending extradition taken. The arrest took place with the approval of the German Ministry of Justice and Foreign Affairs .

arrest

According to his lawyer Saad Djebbar, the arrest was based on a request from Egyptian law enforcement authorities to Interpol for a red notice dated October 2, 2014. Ahmed Mansour is accused of detaining and torturing a lawyer in Tahrir Square in Cairo during the 2011 Arab Spring . An Egyptian criminal court sentenced him in absentia to fifteen years' imprisonment for this in 2014.

On October 24, 2014, Interpol rejected the Egyptian request because it did not comply with Interpol's rules. Mansour said he was in possession of a statement from Interpol that the global police force had rejected the Egyptian Red Notice request that he would not be wanted on any charges and that the Egyptian charges were fabricated.

However, the federal police ignored this document and arrested Mansour on June 20, 2015. Mansour had entered Germany with his British passport and had interviewed the German Islamic scholar Guido Steinberg before his arrest for his program Bilā Ḥudūd .

On June 22, 2015, the Berlin Public Prosecutor's Office decided not to comply with Egypt's request for legal assistance. When Mansour was released from Moabit correctional facility , supporters cheered him on. In the aftermath of German government circles it was declared that "an extradition of Ahmed Mansour to Egypt was completely excluded". In addition, the federal government expressed its regrets about the two-day detention, but declined an apology to Mansour.
