Ahmed Rushdi (born April 24, 1934 in the Princely State of Hyderabad , British India , † April 11, 1983 in Karachi , Pakistan ) was a Pakistani playback singer of the Urdu film.

Life

Rushdi, who grew up in Hyderabad, India, had a natural baritone voice . He emigrated to Pakistan and became a singer in the Pakistani film industry. After he recorded the pop song Ko-Ko-Ko-reena , he is also known as the first regular pop singer in South Asia . In 1954 he recorded the official national anthem of Pakistan with several other singers. He suffered from poor health in the late 1970s. He died of a heart attack at the age of 48. In total, he sang about five thousand movie songs in 583 films.

Awards

Rushdi received

  • five Nigar Awards (official award of the Pakistani film industry),
  • the title "Best Singer Of The Millennium",
  • the Life Time Achievement Award,
  • the Legend Award and
  • the Lux Style Award.

In 2003, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf posthumously awarded him the Sitara-e-Imtiaz , the “Star of Excellence”, for outstanding services in the field of art. In Karachi , Ahmed Rushdi Road was named after him.
