Ahmet Çakar

Ahmet Murat Çakar (born August 3, 1962 in Istanbul) is a former Turkish football referee and is considered one of the most successful referees in his country. His main occupation is a doctor .

Career

Ahmet Çakar graduated from the oldest Turkish university, İstanbul Üniversitesi Tıp Faküllei . After completing his studies, he practiced medicine and worked part-time as a football referee. He has led over 100 international matches and derbies and was the first Turkish referee to lead matches in the UEFA Champions League . After his career as a football referee, he worked as a commentator in various Turkish sports programs. He is currently commenting on the events in Turkish football together with Sinan Engin, Ümit Karan , Abdülkerim Durmaz and Ertem Şener, in a program called Beyaz Futbol . He also works as a sports editor for the Turkish daily Sabah .

Çakar is married and has two children.

On February 25, 2004, Çakar was shot five times by a previously unknown person. The motive for the crime is still unknown; the police assume that his comments about what happened in Turkish football were the motive for the perpetrator.
