Club career
Güney learned to play football in his youth from the Istanbul amateur club Yeşilbağlar SK and moved to the third division club Eyüpspor with a professional contract .
At Eyüpspor he played a season and switched to city and league rivals Fatih Karagümrük SK . For the 2001/02 season, Turkish professional football was expanded to include a professional league and the teams in the normal third division moved into the third division (later referred to as TFF 2.Lig ) or the newly created fourth division (later as TFF 3 . Lig ) divided. Fatih Karagümrük was divided into the TFF 3rd Lig according to these guidelines. But Güney managed to move up to the third highest Turkish league after just one season.
In the summer of 2003 he moved to the third division Kartalspor and played here for five and a half years. Only the second half of the 2004/05 season he spent on loan from fourth division Alibeyköyspor . The 2006/07 season he finished with Kartalspor as runner-up in the TFF 2nd Lig and rose to the TFF 1st Lig . Here he then played for two more years and left the club.
For the second half of the 2008/09 season he was hired by the second division club Karabükspor . Here they achieved the championship of the TFF 1st Lig in the 2009/10 season and thus direct promotion to the Süper Lig . After this success the expiring contract with Güney was not extended.
After saying goodbye to Karabükspor, Güney played for one season at Boluspor and then at Kartalspor .
For the 2012/13 season he moved to the second division Torku Konyaspor . He returned to Kartalspor after just two match days.
