Ahn Dae-hee (born March 31, 1955 in Haman , Gyeongsangnam-do ) is a South Korean lawyer and politician. He is a member of the conservative Saenuri party .

Life

Before entering politics, Ahn studied law at Seoul National University . He then worked as a public prosecutor for over 25 years . Here he became a star who even had its own fan club and made a name for itself with spectacular corruption trials . It was founded in 2006 by President Roh Moo-hyun to judge on the Supreme Court of South Korea appointed. After stepping down six years later, he joined Park Geun-hye's 2012 presidential campaign . On May 22, 2014, President Park nominated him to succeed Jung Hong-won for the office of Prime Minister . After Ahn's parliamentary hearing, the nomination would have had to be approved by the National Assembly before it could have been sworn in. Ahn came under criticism for his income as a lawyer after his resignation as a constitutional judge, whereby he was accused of having profited from his previous post. He made about 1.1 billion won or one million US dollars in one year . Ahn then stated that he would donate these acquired assets to the company. A little later, Ahn declared that he would give up the post of Prime Minister that had been offered to him.

The then incumbent Prime Minister Jung Hong-won - like the entire government - came under massive criticism after the accident on the Sewol ferry and offered his resignation, which was accepted by President Park. However, this did not take effect immediately and Jung remains in office until his successor is sworn in. The proposed change of prime minister was seen as a tactical step ahead of the local elections on June 4, 2014, as the popularity ratings of the ruling party are at a low point after the ferry accident.
