Ahornbahn old

In 1967 the supervisory board of Mayrhofner Bergbahnen AG decided on the contract to build the Ahornbahn. At the beginning of the 1968 winter season, the construction was completed and the Ahornbahn officially opened. The aerial tramway had an inclined length of 2743 m and overcame a height difference of 1295 m. Their cabins initially held 43 people, later 50 people, and drove to the mountain station at a maximum speed of 10 m / s (36 km / h) in around 7 minutes. The cable car could carry 430 people per hour. During the construction of the new Ahornbahn it ran until August 6, 2006, when it was shut down after 38 years of operation, 350,000 journeys and 11.5 million passengers.

Mountain station

In autumn 2005, construction of the valley station of the completely new aerial tramway began in Mayrhofen , and in spring 2006 construction of the mountain station at 1966 m. From August to September 2006, the rope was pulled, in which the 70 mm thick and almost 100 tonne supporting ropes were pulled to the mountain station with three auxiliary ropes. On October 18, 2006, the first gondola was pulled up with a winch. After a one-month trial run, the cable car was officially opened on December 9, 2006.

The new Ahornbahn is the largest aerial tramway in Austria (as of 2009) and transports up to 160 people in one cabin to the Ahorn plateau in 6.3 minutes. The height difference is now 1300 meters with a sloping length of 3045 meters. As with the old train, the speed is 10 m / s. The conveying capacity has increased to 1200 people / h due to the significantly larger cabins. The cabin dimensions are 9.0 × 4.6 meters with an interior height of 2.2 meters, the empty weight is 5 tons. The cabins each run on two carrying ropes with a 70 mm diameter and are moved by a pull rope with a 47 mm diameter.

The Ahornbahn was built by Doppelmayr and the cabins were supplied by Carvatech .
