Ahveniston Moottorirata (also known as Ahvenisto Race Circuit ) is a motor racing circuit in Hämeenlinna , in the south of Finland .

The 2,840 meter long circuit with a height difference of 32 meters is driven clockwise. The route layout with 10 curves and an approximately 380 meter long start and finish straight is 9 meters to 17 meters wide.

Events

On July 15, 1967, the first international event for the I. Hämeenlinnan ajot 1967 took place on the route. The Formula 2 -race won Jochen Rindt in a Brabham BT23 before Jack Brabham Brabham BT23C and Jim Clark Lotus 48 . The Formula 3 race was won by Freddy Kottulinsky .

From 1973 to 1975 races for the Formula 750 motorcycle racing series were held there. On July 30, 1974, the Swiss racing driver Werner Giger was killed in a training accident on a 500 cc Yamaha .

In addition to numerous national and international car races of all classes, motorcycle championship races are currently taking place on the track, including the Finnish Touring Car Championship, FIA Rallycross Championship, Historic Race Finland and the Nordic F3 Masters. The lap record of 1: 13.226 was set by Marko Nevalainen in a Formula 3 car in 2000.

Trivia

From 1987 to 1992 the motorsport facility was also the venue for the hard rock and heavy metal festival Giants of Rock .

In May 1984, Finland's worst ever helicopter accident occurred during a race. The pilot lost control of his helicopter and crashed into the auditorium on landing, resulting in five deaths and 26, some seriously injured, among the spectators.
