Ai Wu

Ai Wu ( Chinese  艾芜 , Pinyin Ài Wú ; born June 2, 1904 in Lianfeng County in Sichuan Province , Chinese Empire ; † December 5, 1992 in Chengdu , People's Republic of China ) was a Chinese writer.

Life

Ai was born the son of a village teacher. His real name was Daogeng Tang. After training to be a teacher, he traveled through southern China , Burma and Southeast Asia from 1925 to 1930 . He worked as a house servant , tavern attendant, cook, proofreader, teacher and editor. In Shanghai in 1932 he became a member of the League of Leftist Writers . In the early 1960s he wandered through southern China again. He was arrested during the Cultural Revolution and was imprisoned for several years.

Ai wrote short stories, short stories, novels, poems, reports, essays and also works on literary theory.
