description

Vegetative characteristics

Aichryson divaricatum grows as an annual or biennial , rather sparsely branched, bare, herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 10 to 30 centimeters. The shoots have a diameter of 3 to 6 millimeters. The lower branches are dichotomously ascending. Their broadly egg-shaped or trowel-shaped, blunt or rounded leaves are 10 to 30 millimeters long and 8 to 24 millimeters wide. They are truncated until suddenly narrowed into a distinct stalk that is about as long as the leaf blade . The leaf blade is widest near the base.

Generative characteristics

The many-flowered inflorescence is more or less evenly. The six to seven-fold flowers are on a 2 to 9 millimeter long peduncle and have a diameter of 6 to 10 millimeters. Their sepals are glabrous or slightly hairy. The pale yellow, egg-shaped, pointed petals are 3 to 5 millimeters long and have a greenish central rib.

Systematics and distribution

Aichryson divaricatum is widespread on Madeira at altitudes of 500 to 1000 meters (rarely more than 100 meters).

The first description as Sedum divaricatum by William Aiton was published in 1789. Robert Lloyd Praeger placed the species in 1932 in the genus Aichryson .

Further nomenclature synonyms are Anacampseros divaricata (Aiton) Haw. (1812) and Sempervivum divaricatum (Aiton) Lowe (1864).
