Life

Ain Rannaleet was born in Simitizy, which is on the railway line from Narva to Saint Petersburg and where there was an Estonian settlement since 1884, which was built by his grandparents among others. Rannaleet went through elementary school in the same place and moved to Petrograd in 1920 , where he studied at the Agricultural Technical College and from 1926–1931 at the Herzen Institute. At the same time, he worked as a teacher in various positions from 1930. In 1937, however, he fell victim to the Stalinist purges and was imprisoned on August 28 of that year. A good ten weeks later he was executed in Leningrad.

Rannaleet published his first poems in Soviet Estonian publications, which appeared in Soviet Russia from 1920. This lyric reflected the revolutionary struggle of the time, especially since Rannaleet was also one of the founders of the Estonian section of the Leningrad proletarian writers' association. At the same time, however, the focus is also on natural and homeland poetry and an almost "romantic attitude towards life, he understands the conflict between the old village community and the urban culture."

Ain Rannaleet also wrote a play and short prose. Its effect was not limited to the Russian-Estonian district, it was also received to a modest extent in Estonia in the interwar period and corresponded, for example, with Valter Kaaver and Nigol Andresen . Rudolf Sirge visited Rannaleet in 1929 during his trip to the Soviet Union.
