Air Åland is a former Finnish virtual airline based in Mariehamn .

history

Air Åland was founded in January 2005. It marketed different routes to Finland and Sweden. This included flights to Stockholm / Arlanda , Turku and Helsinki .

In 2008 Air Åland transported a total of 61,000 passengers to and from Mariehamn.

The flights to Helsinki were discontinued on May 28, 2012, as the line was in deficit since November 2011 due to competition from Flybe Nordic . The route was operated by Nextjet on behalf of Air Åland. This was made possible by the collapse of the Swedish airline Skyways , which was very active in domestic traffic. As a result, other regional providers, such as Nextjet, had a surge in demand in Sweden, which meant that Nextjet was ready to terminate the contract with Air Åland without further demands in order to use the freed-up capacities elsewhere. The remaining flights were also taken over by Nextjet on July 1, 2012, so that Air Åland no longer has its own flight operations.

Until the cessation of flight operations on May 16, 2018, it marketed Nextjet's flights to Åland Province.

On October 16, 2018, Air Åland announced that they had filed for bankruptcy.

fleet

The Air Åland fleet last consisted of two Saab 340As in June 2012 .
