The Airberlin GmbH (short ABT , proper spelling airberlin technik ) was a provider of aircraft maintenance services . The wholly-owned subsidiary of Air Berlin PLC & Co. Luftverkehrs KG offered aircraft maintenance and various cabin modifications. The company is in bankruptcy. The assets of the insolvent Airberlin Technik GmbH with their stations in Düsseldorf and Berlin and more than 200 employees were taken over by Nayak-LM Germany GmbH at the beginning of 2018.

history

For the maintenance of the Boeing 737 and Airbus 320 fleets of Air Berlin, the technical area of ​​Air Berlin was expanded from 1991. In the course of the airline's growth and the takeover of dba (Deutsche British Airways) in 2006, the DBA Technical Department, which had been responsible for the maintenance of the DBA's Boeing 737 fleet since 1992, was taken over and integrated.

In 2007, LTU was taken over by Air Berlin. The LTU had its own maintenance operation since 1955, the LTU-Technik, which among other things the maintenance of the De-Havilland-Dove , Tristar , MD11 , Boeing-757 , Boeing-767 , Airbus-A330 and Airbus-A320 family for the LTU and also transferred to Airberlin in the course of the takeover.

After the maintenance area of ​​Airberlin had been split geographically into AB Luftfahrttechnik Berlin GmbH , AB Luftfahrttechnik Düsseldorf GmbH and AB Luftfahrttechnik Köln GmbH for a few years , all three companies were merged to Airberlin Technik GmbH on April 1, 2011 .

In the course of the Air Berlin insolvency, the insolvency proceedings due to insolvency were also opened on November 1, 2017 via Airberlin Technik. The bid for the company went to a bidding consortium of the logistics company Zeitfracht and the maintenance provider Nayak Aircraft Services . 170 employees are to be taken over at the Düsseldorf station and a further 80 in Berlin. 700 of the ABT employees are to switch to an employment and qualification company .

Infrastructure

Airberlin Technik has two hangars in Düsseldorf (10,000 m² and approx. 19,000 m²), as well as one hangar each in Berlin-Tegel (4,000 m²), Munich (12,000 m²) and Nuremberg (2,000 m²).

Business areas

In addition to line and base maintenance , Airberlin technical workshops also offer maintenance options for the following areas: avionics, tires and brakes, sheet metal workshop, workshop for rescue and safety, engine workshop and non-destructive material testing. As an approved Part 21 company, Airberlin Technik has the ability to develop modifications for additional type approvals and changes in the areas of avionics and cabin equipment.

Airberlin Technik mainly offers maintenance for the B737, A320 and A330, but other aircraft types are also supported.

Certifications

Airberlin Technik is a certified EASA Part 145 maintenance company and is also an EASA Part 21 certified development company. The Technical Training department is an EASA Part 147 certified training organization. In addition to the EASA certifications, Airberlin Technik has certificates from the authorities in the USA, Russia, United Emirates, Jordan, South Africa, Israel and Qatar.
