Aire (architecture project)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aire (also called Aire Tower ) is an architectural project that the entrepreneur Horst Burbulla would like to carry out on the edge of the Rheinaue in Bonn . The 220 meter high tower made of glass and steel is to house a viewing platform and a ring-shaped restaurant as well as a concert hall in the form of an amphitheater for 1,100 visitors at a height of around 166 meters. Financing, construction and operation are to be carried out by a specially established foundation. The construction costs should not be recovered. Using a Burbulla initiated by citizens' initiative and one on any subsequent civil Entscheides to be decided whether the proposed land leased from the city and a land use plan shall be opened.

The construction project is discussed controversially.

background

The project was accompanied from the beginning by a large-scale advertising campaign with which Burbulla wants to gain support for its private project idea. At the end of 2017, a five-minute presentation video was released that shows the finished tower as a CGI and embeds it in the Bonn skyline . First press reports will follow. On June 27th, Burbulla started a referendum with a kick-off event on Bonn's Münsterplatz . An application is made to initiate a master plan procedure and to lease the intended property to the AIRE Foundation. If the required 10,000 signatures of Bonners over 16 years gathered, the project subsequently be rejected by the City Council, it would come to a referendum . After three months of presentation in public places, Burbulla opens a showroom in downtown Bonn to present and advertise the project.

Location and architecture

Burbulla wanted a site on the edge of Bonn's Rheinaue , on which the Bonn city hall stood until 1944 , and which is now used as a parking lot.

In contrast to the two neighboring high-rise buildings, Posttower and Langer Eugen , Aire should have distinctive roof ornaments based on Bohemian chandeliers. Burbulla sees the Bonn Südstadt building type as inspiration.

discussion

politics

At the beginning of 2018, Monika Hörig, head of the press office and spokeswoman for the city of Bonn, said that "[Burbulla] had to face some hurdles, because the Rheinaue is under nature protection." It was also criticized that the city was more concerned with the creation of building permits Place an amount of 12 million euros to the federal government. At the end of 2019, the General-Anzeiger Bonn reported that the CDU and SPD parliamentary groups in Bonn would be skeptical of the new building, the Greens and FDP at least at the intended location.

Business associations

The IHK Bonn / Rhein-Sieg and Dehoga have made positive comments about the project. On the part of Dehoga, one compares the possible tourist effect of the project with the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie and sees, in particular, a concert hall at a height of 166 meters as an opportunity “to attract artists from a completely different league to Bonn”.

Others

On April 3, 2020, the Bund Deutscher Architekten Bonn-Rhein-Sieg published a statement in which it “calls on the representatives from politics and administration responsible for planning to distance themselves from this project”. There is a signature campaign against the “Aire Tower” on OpenPetition with already (August 20, 2020) over 4,000 supporters who refuse to build the tower for various reasons.
