The Airports Company South Africa SOC Ltd. (abbreviated: ACSA ) has been the majority state-owned South African airport operator since 1993 . It operates nine of the largest airports in the country. There are also several capital investments abroad.

history

The company was founded in 1993, towards the end of the apartheid era , as a purely public company for the operation of the South African airports and was partially privatized in 1998 . About a quarter of the shares was at a value of about 4 billion Rand sold to other shareholders. In 2005, the 20% foreign owned shares were acquired by the Public Investment Corporation (PIC) . In 2006, ACSA, together with Indian GVK Industries Ltd. and the South African Bidvest a concession to operate the Indian airport Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai .

In 2007 a contract was signed to build a new airport in Durban for R 6.8 billion . In the same year, George Airport in the south of the country was modernized for 43 million rand. In 2010 OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg was converted to operate the Airbus A380 and the new airport in Durban was opened. Airports Company South Africa has been working with Ghana Airports Company Limited since 2014 .
