Ajman ( Arabic عجمان, DMG ʿAǧmān ; sometimes also Ajman , Adjman , Ujmân and spelled differently) is the capital of the Emirate of Ajman , the smallest of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates . Ajman is located immediately north of Sharjah and only around 22 kilometers northeast of Dubai .
Location and inhabitants
The capital of the small emirate is identical to the largest sub-area, which stretches over 16 kilometers along the Gulf coast. It covers 148 square kilometers of mostly flat sandy soil. The land is completely enclosed by the Emirate of Sharjah .
Around 95 percent of all emirate residents live in the up-and-coming city - and the trend is still rising, because some tourist urbanizations are planning and encouraging growth.
The direct proximity to the city of Sharjah and the limited expansion possibilities in the hinterland have led to an extensive structural merger with the larger neighboring emirate over the years.
City structure
For statistical purposes the urban area is divided into 6 sectors (City Center, Northern, Middle, Southern, Eastern, Zorah) and further into 41 districts.
Attractions
In Ajman, the fort of the former rulers has been preserved. It houses a small museum that shows the living conditions of the population before the oil reserves were found.
Construction project
Ajman also relies on tourism, although here with only 16 kilometers of coastline, two kilometers of which are already occupied by port facilities, there are even fewer natural conditions than in the neighboring emirates. So the idea came about, unlike in Dubai with its landfills in the open sea, to get to further coastal land by dredging canals and lagoons into the undeveloped land. Forecasts indicate that the subdivided building areas with seawater connections that are obtained in this way will achieve prices that will only be around a third below the Dubai competition, but still cheap enough to attract interested parties. From 2007 up to 17 small to medium-sized urbanizations with names such as “Emirates City” or “Al Almera Village” have been announced, some of which are currently under construction or have been postponed for the time being.
Partnerships
Adschman has been a cooperation partner of Erlangen since 2005 .
