The Academic Association Vitruvia Stuttgart is a mixed , colored , apolitical and non- political student association that was founded in 1869 as an Academic Architects Association at the Stuttgart Polytechnic .

history

Founding times (1869-1914)

The academic association Vitruvia was founded on February 11, 1869 as an academic architects' association at the Polytechnic in Stuttgart. In 1890 the Polytechnic became the Technical University of Stuttgart. This resulted in the introduction of the maturity principle for the association and with it the transition from the "association" to the corporate society . The motto was retained, the circle redesigned in Art Nouveau style. In 1895 the club appeared for the first time in the colors black-red-black.

In 1899 the Vitruvia old men’s association was founded. This also introduced the life union principle for the Academic Architects' Association , as with the already existing student corporations. Because of this, the statutes and the name of the association were changed in 1904. The "Academic Architects 'Association" became the "Academic Architects' Association Vitruvia", while maintaining the student council principle. The new association does not join any association, but remained a free student association. It was colored - black-red-black, which corresponded to the colors of the old state of Württemberg. Besides, she was striking. The use of scales was voluntary. For patron was Marcus Vitruvius Pollio , author of the well-known architectural books "De Architectura".

In 1909 the property of today's Vitruvenhaus with a studio building and garden was acquired. The atelier was built in 1870 by the master builder Christian Friedrich von Leins .

Wartime (1914–1950)

In the summer of 1914, the student council principle was abandoned and the name was changed to its current version "Academic Association Vitruvia".

In the same year the First World War broke out. Almost half of the Vitruvians served, 16 members fell.

From 1919 corporate life resumed as usual.

With the rise of the National Socialists in Germany, there were also changes in social relationships. The board of the old gentlemen's association of AV Vitruvia was replaced in 1933 by a "federal leader" with extensive powers in the course of the National Socialist reorganization. Later in the same year, single corporations, including AV Vitruvia, had to join corporation associations at the insistence of the Nazi student body . The general assembly chose to join the Association of Gymnastics Associations . The name became "Free Gymnastics Vitruvia". For the Aktivitas , this meant the introduction of the determination gauges .

In 1934 the house association decided to convert the Vitruvenhaus into a camaraderie, as corporation houses had to be made available as student dormitories.

In autumn 1935 all student associations were dissolved. The NS-Studentenbund had ordered the dissolution of the comradeships existing in the individual connections and demanded the connection to a NS comradeship. A general convention then decided to dissolve Aktivitas. This meant the temporary end of the AV Vitruvia, of which the old gentlemen's association and the house association continued to exist as a friendship association of all Vitruvians.

When the Second World War broke out, numerous federal members were drafted again.

In the post-war period, the old gentlemen's association managed to get a promise from the American city commanders, which included that the academic connection Vitruvia at the Technical University of Stuttgart could reopen. As a result, the first contact between the elderly gentlemen of Vitruvia and the chairmen of the Academic Club Cosmos at the Technical University of Stuttgart took place in autumn 1947 .

In 1948, the Academic Club Cosmos decided to dissolve it and move to Vitruvia. The former Cosmos members who studied at the Technical University of Stuttgart formed the new Aktivitas of AV Vitruvia. At the Christmas bar, the active people were given the Vitruvian ribbons. The choice was made for the half-coleur, i.e. H. no hat and no jerk off, just the ribbon to be worn on solemn occasions.

In the meantime, there were a number of connections at the Technical University of Stuttgart that struck the scale . Activitas refused to become a strong connection again, partly because of the war that was not too long ago.

1950 until today

At the end of the 90s, the idea developed in Aktivitas that it was outdated in today's society to be a purely male connection. The Aktivitas insisted in front of the elderly on opening the doors of the union to women. The first woman joined the union in the summer of 2000, a year later it was finally decided at a large convention that Vitruvia would become a mixed union.

In summer 2019, AV Vitruvia celebrated its 150th foundation festival.

Connection principles

On its website, the student corporation states that it is a mixed, modern, color-bearing, non-striking association that cultivates customs and established traditions. Its principles should be free of denominational and party political ties.

The Academic Association Vitruvia undertakes to encourage its members to develop into discerning, responsible and tolerant personalities. In doing so, it supports its student members and calls for a commitment to purposeful training and active participation in shaping federal life. The connection cultivates the student community life through liaison evenings, sports, joint trips, social events and the critical examination of oneself and the environment with the involvement of leading personalities. The AVV sees personal friendship, mutual trust and tolerance as the basis for the community.
