The B9 was a twin-engine test aircraft for a lying pilot arrangement of the flight technology specialist group Berlin (FFG Berlin).
history
As early as 1938, with the FS-17 of the FFG Stuttgart , investigations into the load limit of a lying pilot with high g-forces were carried out. In order to continue these investigations, the FFG Berlin received the order to develop a motorized aircraft, which was included in the RLM type list as 8-341 . In order to enable the pilot, who is prone with chin rest in the glazed bow, to read the instruments, their displays were shown.
The aircraft, designated B9 in the Berliner Akaflieg nomenclature and designed by Theodor Goedicke, Leo Schmidt and Martin G. Winter, was completed in spring 1943. On April 10, 1943, the first flight with Hans-Werner Lerche took place at the Schönefeld airfield near Berlin. The aircraft was flown by more than thirty pilots from DVL , RLM , DFS and aircraft manufacturers. Since the planned Me P2 controllable pitch propellers were not available, the aircraft could only be tested in a dive with rigid propellers from Schäfer at a maximum speed of 450 km / h. The aircraft registration was D-ECAY.
construction
The B9 was a cantilever low- wing aircraft with tubular steel fuselage, wooden wings with expanding flap and tail wheel landing gear with the main landing gear of a Messerschmitt Bf 108 that could be retracted into the engine nacelles . The drive consisted of two Hirth-HM-500A motors with 105 HP each. The breaking load multiple of the machine was calculated as 25 g, only a maximum value of 8.5 g could be flown.
