The B11 was a single-seat, tailless glider of the Academic Aviation Group of the Technical University of Berlin with a negative swept wing.
history
The basis of the design was a "project study of a tailless aircraft" at the TU Berlin. More detailed aerodynamic investigations followed from the beginning of 1961 at Akaflieg in Berlin. Component investigations for the GRP / Balsa composite construction were used to determine strength parameters as the basis for the design calculations. In preparation for the design of the wing spar webs , shear tests were carried out on plywood panels. A model on a scale of 1: 8 with variable V-position of the wing and exchangeable vertical stabilizer was measured in the wind tunnel at the AVA in Göttingen.
construction
The fuselage was created in a tubular steel frame construction with aerodynamic GRP cladding and a braking parachute in the stern. The vertical stabilizer is conventionally built with a pine spar, balsa ribs and plywood planking (fin) and fabric covering (rudder); The wings in GRP / balsa sandwich construction with four-part flaps for almost the entire span for height and aileron control.
