Aki-Matilda Høegh-Dam

Aki-Matilda Tilia Ditte Høegh-Dam (born October 17, 1996 in Hillerød , Denmark ) is a Greenlandic politician ( Siumut ).

Life

Aki-Matilda Høegh-Dam is the youngest child in her family and has two brothers and two half-sisters on her father's side. Her father is the skipper Kim Høegh-Dam and her mother is the teacher Bitten Høegh-Dam. Two of her grandparents are Greenlanders and two Danes. She was born in Denmark and grew up in Sisimiut . She is in a relationship with the politician Kuno Fencker (* 1974).

At the age of 14 she became a member of the council of the children's rights organization Nakuusa , which aroused her political interest. A year later she became a member of the Siumut youth organization . In 2015 she began studying political science at Københavns Universitet , which she graduated in 2019. Also in 2015 she competed in the Miss Danmark election and landed in 6th place.

She ran in the Folketing Election in 2019 and received the second most votes of all candidates as well as most of the Siumut candidates. This gave her one of the two Greenlandic places in the Folketing and ousted former Prime Minister Aleqa Hammond from parliament. She is committed to an independent Greenland.
