During his solo career in 1989 he formed the duo Jimsaku together with Casiopea's bassist Tetsuo Sakurai . Currently he forms the drum duo Synchronized DNA together with Hiroyuki Noritake (drummer of T-Square ) and has given various concerts with Casiopea.

Akira Jimbo has a unique style that he demonstrates in his drum kit videos. Through years of practice, he is able to move all four limbs independently of one another and can thus play even the most complex rhythms flawlessly. He himself calls this ability Four Way Independence .

It uses the DTX (drum triggering system) and is therefore able to play with a full band sound without playback.

He also performed at the Modern Drummers Festival in 2000 . Also in 2000 he founded the music project "Intelligent Jazz" together with DJ Kay Nakayama . There real jazz sounds were mixed with electronic sounds. They performed with trumpeters Terumasa Hino and Toshinori Kondō and guitarist Kazumi Watanabe . In 2008 he toured 80 cities in Japan as a one-man orchestra in three months.
