Akira Rabelais

Akira Rabelais (born March 28, 1966 in Texas , United States ) is an American musician , composer and software developer. Stylistically, he is particularly active in the field of experimental electronic music ( clicks & cuts , lowercase ).

Life

Rabelais, who grew up in Texas, played guitar in various Austrian bands in the 1980s before turning to electronic music. He studied at Bennington College in Bennington, Vermont, and at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California.

In 1999 his debut album Elongated Pentagonal Pyramid with experimental electronic music was released on the Mille Plateaux subsidiary label Ritornell . Also on Ritornell 2001 the second album Eisoptrophobia was released . On this Rabelais edited and alienated recordings of classical piano pieces by Béla Bartók and Erik Satie .

This was followed by albums on labels such as Orthlorng Musork, Samadhisound, En / Of and Schoolmap. Rabelais has worked with artists such as Ekkehard Ehlers , David Sylvian , Harold Budd , Daniel Menche and Björk .

In addition to his music, Rabelais also develops music software. The best known is Argeïphontes Lyre , which was used by musicians and sound artists such as Stephan Mathieu , Kim Cascone , Terre Thaemlitz and Scanner , among others .

Rabelais lives and works in Los Angeles, California .
