Al Jourgensen (born October 9, 1958 in Havana , Cuba ), actually Alain David Jourgensen , is a singer , guitarist , keyboard player , music producer and songwriter , who was mainly known as the front man of the industrial metal band Ministry . Other artist names are Alien Jourgensen or Hypo Luxa , as he calls himself as a producer.

Career

Jourgensen was born in Havana to a Cuban mother and a Norwegian father. He soon came to the USA, where he grew up with his mother and Danish stepfather in Chicago and Denver, among other places . He attended the University of Northern Colorado and the University of Colorado at Boulder . He worked as a radio DJ until he founded the band Special Affect with Groovie Mann . Jourgensen founded Ministry in 1981. In 2008 the band was disbanded, but reported back in 2012 with a new album.

In 1983 Jourgensen was also a co-founder of the Revolting Cocks . In 1989 Jourgensen founded Lard with Jello Biafra ( Dead Kennedys ) and Paul Barker from Ministry . With his bandmate Paul Barker he worked as a producer team.

Many of Jourgensen's texts reflect personal experiences with heroin and cocaine addiction. But some are also of a political nature, he is considered a critic of George W. Bush . He later stated that he had been drug-free since the early 2000s. The triggers were the amputation of a toe and the impending amputation of an arm, the latter, however, as a result of a spider bite.

Jourgensen told journalist Jon Wiederhorn about his memoirs, including many excesses committed under the influence of drugs, in several hour-long interview sessions. The material was published in 2013 as a biography under the title Ministry: The Lost Gospels According to Al Jourgensen.

As of February 3, 2014, he will be treated in a rehab center for his alcohol problem. He also admitted almost dying from health problems resulting from alcohol addiction in 2010.
