The Alabama State Route 53 ( AL 53 for short ) is a state route in the US state of Alabama that runs in a north-south direction.

The State Route begins on Florida State Road 71 between Cottonwood and Malone on the Florida state line . After 556 kilometers, it ends west of Ardmore on Interstate 65 and US Highway 31 . The road splits with US Highway 231 between the cities of Dothan and Huntsville . In this section, however, it is not labeled alongside the US 231.

In Ardmore, the State Route runs on the border between the states of Alabama and Tennessee . This road is therefore also known as the State Line Road . Between Ardmore and I-65, the AL 53 continues to run parallel to the state border for four kilometers.
