Alain Pellegrini (born August 12, 1946 in La Flèche ) is a French Général de division and former commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon .

He is a graduate of the Saint-Cyr Military School . Pellegrini was deployed in Africa and the Middle East and then commanded the 21e Régiment d'Infanterie de Marine in Fréjus . He also serves as an advisor to the Minister of Defense of Benin and as a defense attaché at the French embassy in Beirut . He was involved in the UNPROFOR and IFOR missions in 1995 and 1996 and was involved in the implementation of the Dayton Treaty in Sarajevo and Mostar .

In 2000 he headed the Africa and Middle East Department of the Direction du Renseignement Militaire , the military reconnaissance in Paris , with the rank of Colonel .

From July 2001 Pellegrini was advisor to the Chef d'état-major des armées (CEMA, French Chief of Staff) for Africa and the Middle East .

On January 26, 2004, he took over command of UNIFIL and replaced General Lalit Mohan Tewari .

On February 2, 2007 Pellegrini was replaced by the Italian Major General Claudio Graziano .
