Sir Alan Stanley Collins , KCVO , C MG (born April 1, 1948 ) is a retired British diplomat .

Life

Alan Stanley Collins studied at the Strand School and the London School of Economics and Political Science . He is married and has three children. From 1970 he was employed in the UK Department of Defense . From 1973 to 1975 he was the private secretary to the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Royal Air Force . He joined the foreign service in 1981. Collins was the deputy head of the embassy in Addis Ababa . In 1995, Collins heads the British Trade and Culture Bureau (BTCO) in Taipei . From 1998 to 2002 he was ambassador to Manila , where in 2001 Joseph Estrada had to resign from the office of president. From December 2003 to 2006 he was the High Commissioner in Singapore . From January 2007 to July 2011, Collins was Consul General in New York with an annual budget of £ 109,999 .
