Peter Beckingham

Peter Beckingham (born March 16, 1949 in Essex , England) is a British diplomat .

Life

In 1966, after graduating from high school, Beckingham received a Nuffield Foundation scholarship to teach in Zambia . He then traveled to southern and eastern Africa. He met his wife Jill in Cambridge . In 1968, after graduating from Selwyn College (Cambridge) , Beckingham traveled to Israel for six weeks on a scholarship. From 1968 to 1974 he worked at Argo Records . From 1974 to 1979 he was employed by the British Overseas Trade Board (BOTB).

In 1979 he joined the foreign service. In the Foreign and Commonwealth Office he headed a department which tried to alleviate the famine in Ethiopia from 1984 to 1985 and was seconded to Cadbury plc in London , Birmingham and Poland . From 1981 to 1985 Peter Beckingham was employed by British Information Services in New York. From 1988 he was embassy secretary in Stockholm . From July 1992 he was Secretary to the British High Commissioner (Commonwealth) in Canberra . From August 1999 he was Consul General in Sydney from 2004 to 2009 Ambassador to Manila and on February 1, 2010 Beckingham became Deputy British High Commissioner (Commonwealth) in Mumbai . From 2013 to 2016 he was governor of the Turks and Caicos Islands .
