Alarich Wallner

Alarich Wallner (born April 27, 1922 in Niklasdorf ; † February 28, 2005 in Graz ) was an Austrian composer and conductor .

Life

Alarich Wallner, offspring of a music-loving family, initially received training at the Leoben Music School before he moved to the Johann Joseph Fux Conservatory in Graz , where he studied piano with Hugo Kroemer, cello with Rudolf Stepnicka and music theory with Walter Kolneder . He then worked as a music teacher at various types of schools in Graz and Gleisdorf . Wallner founded the Graz Teachers' Orchestra in 1950, the Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra in 1962 and the Graz Chamber Orchestra in 1963. Alarich Wallner was awarded the Great Decoration of Honor of the State of Styria in 1987 , the title of Professor in 1992 and the Golden Decoration of Honor of the City of Graz in 2002.

Wallner's compositional work includes a romantic suite (1950), a sonatina for orchestra (1960), the oratorio Erde, Deine Wasser (1969), the song cycle Keep your heart ready (1986), a children's song cycle (1990), the Festival cantata Signs of Promise (1996) and fifteen symphonies .
