Arthur Willibald Königsheim (born March 18, 1816 in Dresden , † March 17, 1886 in Blasewitz near Dresden) was a Saxon ministerial official who is remembered by posterity in particular for his services to the establishment of the Blasewitz forest park .

Life

Thanks to the support of relatives, Königsheim enjoyed a good education. At the age of 14 he was a lawyer’s clerk for two years and was then able to attend the Princely School in Grimma from 1832 to 1837 . Having trained there, he then studied law in Leipzig .

After legal employment in Radeberg and Zwickau , he was a civil servant in Dresden from 1857 to 1884, in particular a secret councilor in the Saxon Ministry of the Interior under Friedrich Ferdinand von Beust and Hermann von Nostitz-Wallwitz .

Königsheim was married to Clara Graf since 1844. On the advice of doctors, the family moved to the countryside in 1863 so that their third son, Johannes Alfons Eusebius, could recover there. For this purpose, Königsheim commissioned the architect Theodor Lehnert in 1862 to build a villa on the edge of the Blasewitzer Tännicht forest in the sparsely populated Dresden suburb of Blasewitz . Already at this time he had the idea of creating a residential colony with a forest park, which he pushed forward until the end of the decade to such an extent that a plan of the forest park could be published in 1868 and all the adjacent building plots were sold by 1872.

Arthur Willibald Königsheim died on March 17, 1886, the day before his seventieth birthday, and was buried in the Tolkewitz Johannisfriedhof . After his father's death, Johannes Alfons Eusebius Königsheim (1854–1928) continued his efforts for the Waldparkstiftung.

The Villa Königswald , north-west of the Blasewitz forest park , is now a registered cultural monument . Since 2003 a memorial plaque commemorates its former resident. The Königsheimplatz, named after him, is located near the southwest corner of the forest park between Blasewitzer and Loschwitzer Straße .
