Alasan Senghore

Alasan Senghore (* in the 20th century) is an association official from the West African state of Gambia . He is General Secretary of the Gambian Red Cross and Africa Director of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

In May 2020, it was (the national coordinator of the Government of the Gambia for the COVID-19 preparedness and response program English -19 COVID Preparedness and Response Program National Coordinator for the Government of The Gambia for ) appointed, but resigned in late June returned from this post .

Life

Senghore has an MBA from the University of Oxford in Development Studies and Leadership and Sustainability (according to another source: two Masters degrees in Leadership and Sustainability and Management from the University of Cumbria and the University of Liverpool ) He also holds a degree in project management from the Pan African Institute for Development in Cameroon.

His career began in 1976 at the Gambia Red Cross Society (GRCS) as a youth and sales representative, later he was appointed its general secretary.

In 1992 he was appointed Assistant Administrator in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (IFRC) and was responsible for leading the Somali refugee operation in Kenya. He was later appointed head of the sub-delegation and in 1994 promoted to head of the Kenyan delegation for the IFRC. As Kenyan delegate for regional cooperation from 1995 of the ICRC and from 1997 to 1998 deputy head of the ICRC mission at the Organization for African Unity in Addis Ababa . In 1998 he was appointed Delegate for Regional Cooperation and Deputy Head of the ICRC Regional Delegation in Harare , Zimbabwe. From 2000 to 2002 he was appointed Head of the IFRC Sector for Cooperation in Africa at its Geneva headquarters . 2003 Head of the IFRC Regional Delegation for Southern Africa; 2004 head of the regional delegation for West and Central Africa; 2007 Head of the Zone for West and Central Africa. Appointed Director of the Africa Region for the IFRC and given responsibility for leading the IFRC's change and decentralization process in Africa, which was successfully completed. Later he was responsible for coordinating the support of the humanitarian and development activities of the 49 national African Red Cross / Red Crescent Societies in Sub-Saharan Africa and was responsible for the overall coordination of the international response of the Red Cross to the Ebola operation in West Africa .

In June 2016 he became Permanent Observer for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement at the United Nations. In this role he was replaced by Richard Blewitt in August 2018 .

On May 22, 2020, President Adama Barrow appointed him National Coordinator for the Government of Gambia for the COVID-19 preparedness and control program. He should coordinate the work of all ministries, departments and agencies of the government, local and international NGOs , partners and other people in dealing with the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic in Gambia . For personal, unspecified reasons, which included criticism of the way the government worked, Senghore resigned from his post on June 22, 2020.

Senghore is married to human rights activist Fatou Jagne and has two children with her.
