Alasdair Graham

Alasdair Bernard Graham , PC ( May 21, 1929 in Dominion , Nova Scotia , † April 22, 2015 in Halifax ) was a Canadian politician .

Life

Alasdair Graham studied at St. Francis Xavier University , before he in the general election in 1958 in Nova Scotia unsuccessfully for a seat in the lower house candidate. On April 26, 1972 he was appointed senator by Pierre Trudeau . Graham was the Liberal Party leader from 1976 to 1980 . In 1995 he became deputy parliamentary group chairman of the ruling party in the Senate and in 1997 parliamentary group chairman of the ruling party in the Senate, making him the only representative from Nova Scotia to be a member of the cabinet . In the 1997 general election , the Liberals lost all Nova Scotia seats. Graham was a member of the cabinet until he was replaced by Bernie Boudreau in 1999 .

Graham retired from the Senate in 2004 after reaching retirement age of 75. His son Danny Graham ran the Nova Scotia Liberal Party from 2002 to 2004 . Alasdair Graham died on April 22, 2015.
