The Albany Regional Airport , officially Harry Riggs Albany Regional Airport is an airport south of Drome , the city Albany and surrounding area in the Australian state of Western Australia operated. It is the largest airport in the Great Southern Region , the area on the south coast of Western Australia.

Furnishing

Albany Regional Airport has two paved, intersecting runways, one 1.8 kilometers long and 30 meters wide, the other 1.1 kilometers long and 30 meters wide. A Boeing 737 can land on the 1.8-kilometer runway. The airport also has an instrument landing system .

The terminal is right on the Albany Highway .

By 2017, the airport received AUD 575,000 grants under the Regional Airports Development Scheme . A total of AUD 1.15 million was spent on runway rehabilitation and other renovations in 2017, with the city of Albany providing the rest. The last major renovation took place in 1997.

Flight connections

The airline Regional Express operates since 2016 daily flights to Perth , a total of 23 connections. Virgin Australia Regional Airlines flew to Albany until 2016. As it is assumed that only one airline can operate the Perth – Albany route profitably, the state government is putting the operation on the route to tender . The agreement includes a maximum price.

Albany Regional Airport is the major airport in the Great Southern Region. In 2016 it carried more than 56,000 passengers. Flight operations have increased significantly since Regional Express took over the flight connection: in the 2018/19 operating year, over 61,000 passengers were carried over a period of twelve months.

Between 2011 and 2016, the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia made 2085 landings at the airport .
