Albert Becker (historian)

Albert Becker (born September 16, 1879 in Speyer , † November 21, 1957 in Heidelberg ) was a German historian and folklorist.

Becker attended grammar school in Speyer, studied in Heidelberg and Munich, and received his doctorate in 1903. phil. From 1903 to 1907 he worked as a grammar school assistant at the humanistic grammar school in Ludwigshafen am Rhein , from 1908 to 1934 at the grammar school in Zweibrücken , most recently as senior director.

Becker is considered to be the founder of scientific folklore in the Palatinate. He was an honorary member of the "Palatinate Society for the Promotion of Science", the "Palatinate Church History Association" and the "Historical Association of the Palatinate". He was awarded the Royal Bavarian King Ludwig Medal for Science and Art (1917), the Knight's Cross First Class of the Royal Württemberg Order of Frederick and the Bene Merenti Medal of the University of Würzburg (1927).
