Albert Biermann

Albert Biermann (born November 22, 1903 in Recklinghausen ; † June 11, 1994 in Rheine ) was a German local politician .

Life

Biermann had lived in Rheine since 1919 and passed his matriculation examination here at the Dionysianum high school in 1923. He studied law and political science in Münster and Freiburg . After he passed the legal exams with distinction and in 1928 in Freiburg with the dissertation "The error in canonical marriage law, in particular the error de qualitate in personam redundans" to the Dr. jur. After completing his doctorate, he started his professional work with the lawyer and notary Josef Strotmann, Rheine, and after his death in 1953 he opened his own law firm, to which the notary's office was added. Albert Biermann worked as a lawyer and notary in a practice in Rheine until 1988, which his son Jürgen Biermann and son-in-law Hermann Beul then took over.

Biermann was married to Martha Rabbers from Neuenkirchen near Rheine and had three children. Biermann was a soldier from February 14, 1942 to May 23, 1945, first in a motor vehicle department, then in an interpreting company. The book “Rheine ad Ems”, published by H. Büld in Rheine in 1977, reports on the end of his time as a soldier.

In 1945 Biermann went into local politics; On August 10, he became a member of the municipal advisory council formed by the British military government and the district advisory council in Rheine . On October 12 of that year, at the suggestion of the military government, he came to the Rheine City Council. At that time, Biermann founded the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in the district and in the Rheine branch with politically like-minded citizens . He led this local association and was a member of the Rheine City Council as a CDU delegate. Here he was chairman of the faction of his party and from 1948 to 1954, and from 1961 to 1975 he was mayor of the city of Rheine.

Awards

In 1968 the Federal President awarded Biermann the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st Class, and the city of Rheine awarded him the “Golden Medal”.

Honorary positions

Biermann dedicated himself to voluntary work, as a member of the board of trustees of the Mathias Hospital and the Jakobi Hospital, chairman of the Rheine Tierpark association, the administrative board of the Rheine municipal savings bank, member of the advisory board of the Rheine-Emsdetten local agricultural association, and member of the local community work group Stadt und Amt Rheine ”, board member and vice-president of the North Rhine-Westphalian Association of Cities, deputy member of the presidium of the newly organized German Association of Cities and Municipalities and presidium member of the Society for the Care of the Fairytale Estate of European Peoples, Rheine.
