The Hohenecker Hof is under monument protection standing cultural monument in Bensheim on the mountain road . It is an old noble court.

History and the present

In 1756, the Mainz cathedral dean Johann Franz Baron von Hoheneck (1686–1758) had the Hohenecker Hof built. Previously there was an older farm at this point, which was initially owned by the Lords of Walbrunn and later by Lieutenant General Johann Rudolf Victor von Pretlack . In 1884 the Hohenecker Hof became the property of a pharmacist's descendants. Around 1900 they ensured a major renovation in the neo-Gothic style.

Property and construction

The Hohenecker Hof shows the viewer two very different sides. On the one hand there is the red brick facade facing west (at Beauner Platz ) with stepped gable and terrace porch . In the central axis are a loggia and balconies. Large windows in pointed arches emphasize the gable, which has two tin turrets on the side. The balustrade stands out clearly from the building.

The eastern gable wall ( Am Bürgerhaus ), on the other hand, represents the old original building. The baroque half-timbered structure with curved long struts on the massive ground floor stands out clearly from the west facade. In the framework are man figures, quarter-circle struts and St. Andrew's crosses.

The gable roof gable has arched hatch openings. A rocaille cartouche with the coat of arms of the von Hoheneck family is located above the arched entrance to the house . The inscription reads:

"IO'ES: FRANC: BARO from HOHENECK DECAN: METROP: MOG: HAS AEDES CUM SUIS APPERTINENTIIS ET ALIIS DIVO MARTINO ET DECANIS SUC / CESSORIBUS IN PERPETUUM FEV DM DEDI / CAVIT AO MDCCLVI"

- Inscription of the coat of arms

The gate in front of the east gable wall is made of yellow sandstone in neo-Gothic style . The keystone of the gate, a remnant ( spoil ) of an old city courtyard, bears the year 1533.
