Albert Fuchs (doctor)

Albert Fuchs (born April 16, 1919 in Bregenz ; † November 23, 1985 ibid) was an Austrian doctor and art patron.

Life

Fuchs came from a middle-class house, his father Karl was the owner of a small mineral oil company. He studied medicine at the University of Vienna , graduated in 1942 with a war doctorate and was then drafted into the Wehrmacht . In 1944 he was taken prisoner by the British, where he continued to work in the care of the wounded. After the war he returned to Bregenz as a doctor and was most recently Primarius of the Internal Department at Bregenz Hospital, in whose planning he was involved. He was an honorary member of the Austrian Health and Nursing Association and was honored in 1980 with the title of Medical Councilor .

From 1968 to 1981 Fuchs was President of the Bregenz Festival . a. also planned and built the Bregenz Festival Hall. He was a great music lover and had close ties with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. In 1983 he received the ring of honor and honorary membership of the festival.

In addition to his passion for music, Fuchs also valued painting and organized art exhibitions. He was particularly interested in the works of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism , with whose representatives he maintained close contacts. Among other things, he supported the organization of exhibitions by Kurt Regschek together with his first wife, who later became Miljeva Ypsilanti .

He also kept close ties to the Bregenz Circle, founded in 1964 by Helmut Fetz , Erich Smodics , Rudolf Zündel and Siegfried Kresser.

The Republic of Austria honored him with the Great Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria .

In 1977 he married the artist Marie-Luise Fuchs (née Rohner). In 1985 the passionate nature lover and hunter died of a stroke.
