Albert Hirsch (born June 29, 1841 in Vienna ; † August 11, 1927 there ) was an Austrian folk singer and actor.

Life

Albert Hirsch first worked as a primary school teacher before appearing in small roles at the Theater an der Wien from 1870 . Later he was employed in the theater in der Josefstadt and in the theater under the Tuchlauben. Because of the low salary he left the theater, became a folk singer and founded his own folk singer society, which initially consisted only of family members. Hirsch worked as a director, comedian, director and resident poet and had a concession for a musical theater.

He was married to the actress Minna (née Hänlein; 1843–1913), who was initially an actress in Ingolstadt and from 1872 appeared as a singer in Karl Drexler's Singspielhalle in Vienna.

One of his sons was the Viennese song composer Adolf Hirsch .
