Albert Edward Keetley (born June 8, 1885 in Derby ; † 3rd quarter 1946 ibid) was an English football player .
Career
Keetley was born the second oldest child in a family of eleven sons, eight of whom became professional footballers. Albert was one of six brothers who played in the Football League , along with Charlie , Frank , Harold , Joe and Tom .
Keetley also played baseball in his youth , receiving a medal from the National Baseball Association in 1900 . At the end of 1906 he received an invitation from the Football League Second Division playing club Burton United to practice training and scored the only goal of the game in a game of the reserve team. Burton then signed Keetley, which prompted Derby County , who claimed to already have Keetley under contract. Since Derby Keetley had only offered a month-long trial training, Keetley was able to accumulate on December 1, 1906 as a right half- forward instead of Fergus Hunt against Glossop FC . The game in which Keetley was certified by Athletic News as a "moderate game" ended in a 2-1 defeat. Keetley had his second and final season appearance for Burton on December 25, 1906 as a right winger in a 2-0 defeat at eventual champions Nottingham Forest . Burton finished at the end of the second division season 1906/07 the last table rank and had to apply for re-election by the league members for the third year in a row to remain in the league, which failed.
The club subsequently played in the Birmingham & District League , in which Keetley played several times for Burton in the 1907/08 season. He was still a Derby resident in the 1911 census and made a living in metalworking for the Midland Railway .
