Albert Martmöller

Albert Martmöller (born December 21, 1876 in Annen bei Witten ; † December 27, 1953 there ) was a German trade unionist and social democrat .

education and profession

Albert Martmöller attended elementary and middle school. He was a miner and union employee. In 1904 he became a member of the SPD. From 1897 to 1933 he worked in the union. From 1918 he worked as district manager and from 1921 to 1933 he was a member of the board of directors of the Miners' Association, from 1929 to 1933 a member of the Provisional Reich Economic Council and a member of the Reichskalirate. From 1926 to 1933 Martmöller was a member of the Reich Coal Council. During the Nazi dictatorship he was subjected to reprisals by the Gestapo . In 1933 he was arrested and dismissed from all offices.

politics

From 1945 Martmöller was city councilor of the city of Witten and from February 1946 to October 1950 and again from 1952 to 1953 mayor of the city. He was also a member of the Westphalia Provincial Council from 1946.

Albert Martmöller was a member of the 1st and 2nd Appointed Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia from October 2, 1946 to April 19, 1947 . Subsequently, until his death on December 27, 1953, he was directly elected member of the 1st and 2nd Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia for the constituency 122 Witten.

Today the Albert-Martmöller-Gymnasium in Witten bears his name.
