Albert Meier (winemaker)
Albert Meier (born October 29, 1896 in Würenlingen in the canton of Aargau ; † April 15, 1964 ) was a Swiss vine grower and politician ( conservative ).
biography
Albert Meier comes from the Würenlingen vineyard dynasty Meier. On December 6, 1462, the Meier family was first mentioned as tenants of the Widumhof in Würenlingen in a document from the Zurzach Provostry. The former drinking arbor on the first floor developed into an inn and later a well-known hotel with restaurant.
As the son of the family of vine growers and hosts, Meier graduated from the agricultural school in Brugg and attended further training courses in viticulture . In the fight against phylloxera, Meier refined native vines for the first time in 1921 with the help of American rootstocks . He expanded the viticulture to a business with vine processing and founded the A. Meier Rebschulen , which still exists today .
From 1945 to 1957 Meier was a conservative Aargau councilor and from 1957 to 1964 president of the Würenlingen loan office. He was the founder of the agricultural cooperative Würenlingen.
