Albert Moses (born December 19, 1937 in Sri Lanka , † September 15, 2017 in London ) was a British actor .

Albert Moses was best known for his role as the Indian secret agent Sadruddin in the James Bond film Octopussy .

Life

Albert Moses' acting career began in the 1960s when he appeared in supporting roles in several films in India. He had previously worked at the University of Ceylon in Peradeniya. From India he moved to Africa, where he worked on documentaries. In the early 1970s, Moses played small roles in a number of television series in the UK including Wicked Women , The Moonstone and Doctor Who before being cast as Ranjeet Singh on the television sitcom Mind Your Language . He took on this role in 42 episodes from 1977 to 1986 and was better known among viewers as Ranjeet Singh than Albert Moses. He previously played a supporting role in The Man Who Wanted To Be King in 1975 and in 1977 in James Bond 007 - The Spy Who Loved Me A Bartender. This was followed by other supporting roles in films such as Mach 'weiter, Emmanuelle , American Werewolf and James Bond 007 - Octopussy .

Moses also directed and produced the Malta television series Gabriella . He has written scripts for the TV drama The Seventh Commandment , the TV comedy Side by Side , the TV thriller Don't Talk to Strangers and the TV drama The Jokers .

As chairman of the St. Albans Film Society , Moses worked for artists from Asia, the Caribbean, the Orient and Asia. He was a member of ITV's London Regional Committee, chaired by Lord Lipsey.

Moses also wrote children's books, including Tales from India , The Hawk , Turtles , Mustapha Mouse Goes to the City, and published a volume of 87 poems.

He was a philanthropist and the trustee and patron of the children's charity Ivy Trust, and was involved in hospitals, schools and retirement homes. In recognition of his work for children, he was honored as a Knight of Honor of the Order of St. John.

Moses died in London in September 2017 at the age of 79. He was buried in St. Andrew's Church in his hometown of Gampola, Sri Lanka .
