Albert Renaud

Albert Roméo Renaud (born October 2, 1920 in Ottawa , Ontario , † December 20, 2012 ) was a Canadian ice hockey player and coach . At the Olympic Winter Games in 1948 , he won the gold medal as a member of the Canadian national team.

Career

Albert Renaud began his career as a hockey player in the Ottawa Junior Hockey League, in which he was active between 1937 and 1940 for Ottawa LaSalle and the Westboro Spearmans. In the senior sector, he first appeared in the 1940/41 season for the Ottawa Montagnards, for which he completed two games before he spent the rest of the season with the Ottawa Car Bombers from the Upper Ottawa Valley Hockey League (UOVHL). In the 1941/42 season he was active for the Hull Volants. Between 1942 and 1944 he played for various teams from the Ontario Senior Hockey League (OCSHL) and the Ottawa National Defense Hockey League (ONDHL). Further stations in the amateur field were the Ottawa Quarter Masters from the ONDHL and the Ottawa Senators from the UOVHL in the 1945/46 season. In the 1946/47 season he was on the ice for the Ottawa New Edinburghs from the OCSHL. He was then hired by the RCAF Flyers, with whom he represented Canada at the 1948 Winter Olympics. He stayed with the RCAF Flyers for two years before running up for the Ottawa Army military team in the 1950/51 season. After a season with the Hull Volants he was from 1952 to 1955 player-coach with the Brockville Magedomas from the New York-Ontario Hockey League. In the 1990s, he donated his Olympic jersey to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

International

For Canada , Renaud took part in the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz , where he and his team won the gold medal. In eight games he scored four goals and ten assists.
