Albert Roman

Albert Roman (* 1944 as Albert Roman Punter in Celerina ) is a Swiss cello - soloist . He comes from St. Moritz in the Engadine and has taught at the Arlesheim music school near Basel .

Albert Roman began his musical education at the Music Academy of the City of Basel , where he graduated with a teaching diploma. Studied for 3 years in Paris with André Navarra with a soloist diploma (License de Concert). Lessons with Pierre Fournier in Geneva and master class with Mstislaw Leopoldowitsch Rostropowitsch in Basel.

First prizes at two international music competitions are the beginning of a concert and teaching activity in Europe, Asia and the USA. Commitment to contemporary music with compositions partly dedicated to him. Collaboration with Pierre Boulez .

In 1999, Roman received the Friendship Award of the People's Republic of China for his services in promoting young Chinese talent . He is visiting professor at the music academies in Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Tianjin and Xi'an. Founder of the First China Cello Orchestra , which he now directs as the Swiss China Cello Orchestra .

Albert Roman is the artistic director of the Chesa da Cultura St. Moritz , a cultural center for musicians.
