Albert of Brescia
Albert of Brescia OP , Latin Albertus de Brixia († 1314 ) was an Italian Dominican . He is to be distinguished from Albertanus of Brescia .
Life
Not much is known about Albert's life. He came from Brescia and was a reading master at the city's Dominican convent. Albert was an early follower and arguably himself a student of Thomas Aquinas . He represented the concern to make Thomism useful for preaching and pastoral care . His three-part main work De officio sacerdotis ( On the office of the priest ) is an excerpt from the Summa theologica of Thomas.
vision
A vision of Albert became significant for the canonization process of Thomas from 1319 and in the Thomas iconography . In it Thomas had appeared to him with a precious gem on his chest and in an intimate conversation with the church father Augustine of Hippo . The vision showed that "the two teachers Thomas and Augustine have the same degree of heavenly glory"; it was considered to certify the conformity of Thomas' teaching with the tradition of the Church.
