Alberto Leonardo Barton , also Alberto Barton Thompson in the Spanish-speaking area , (born July 18, 1870 in Buenos Aires , † October 25, 1950 in Lima ) was a Peruvian doctor and microbiologist .

life and work

Barton was born in Argentina, grew up in Lima (Peru) in 1874 and studied medicine at the University of Lima after attending school . After graduation, he received a scholarship to study in London and Edinburgh . He then became chief physician in a hospital in Lima.

Barton described in 1905 for the first time later after him as Bartonella bacteria known as pathogens of Oroya fever , a bartonellosis that in workers on the railroad Lima- La Oroya occurred.
