Alberto Bevilacqua (born June 27, 1934 in Parma , † September 9, 2013 in Rome ) was an Italian writer , screenwriter and film director .

Life

Bevilacqua wrote his first novel, La polvere sull'erba , in 1955 and submitted it for publication to Salvatore Sciascia ; because of the Italian censorship the book could not be published at the time, and it was only published by Einaudi in 2000. In the following years he wrote over 40 novels and short stories with great influence, which made him one of the most important Italian authors of the 20th century.

Since 1961, he also wrote screenplays for feature films and resulted in the self-adaptation of the novel La Califfa first time in 1970 Director , which he did in another seven films.

Bevilacqua has received numerous awards. So his literary work a. a. with the Premio Campiello , Premio Bancarella , Premio Strega and Premio Dessi . He was awarded the Nastro d'Argento in 1974 for his script for Questa specia d'amore .

On November 22, 2010 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic  at the Grand Cross level on the initiative of the President of the Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano .

Alberto Bevilacqua died on September 9, 2013 after an infectious disease at the age of 79.
