Alberto G. Santos (* 1965 in Caracas , Venezuela ) is the incumbent mayor of Kearny in New Jersey , United States .

Alberto Santos was born in Caracas as the son of Portuguese immigrants. In 1970 the family emigrated to the United States and settled in Kearny in 1979. Santos studied at Georgetown University ( Bachelor ) and then law at New York University, where he earned the academic degrees Master of Laws and Juris Doctor . He is admitted to the bar in the states of New Jersey and New York .

The Democrat Santos was first elected Mayor of Kearny in 1999 and has held this office since January 1, 2000. He was re-elected in 2001, 2003, 2005 and - after the switch to a four-year term - last re-elected in 2009. His term of office ends at the end of 2013. Santos also has a seat on the Board of Chosen Freeholders of Hudson County .
