Alberto Natusch Busch

Alberto Natusch Busch (born May 23, 1933 in Riberalta , Bolivia ; † November 23, 1994 in Santa Cruz de la Sierra ) was an officer in the Bolivian Army and from November 1 to 16, 1979 President of the South American landlocked state of Bolivia.

Life

Alberto Natusch Busch was the nephew of the Bolivian President Germán Busch Becerra . He embarked on a career as a career officer. From 1973 to 1978 he was Minister of Agriculture in Hugo Banzer Suárez's cabinet . In a bloody military coup on November 1, 1979 , Colonel Natusch Busch overthrew President Wálter Guevara Arze, who had been elected for one year by Congress five months earlier . The takeover of power met with popular resistance, the Bolivian trade union federation COB called a general strike, and after only 15 days the coup failed. Natusch Busch retired from public life and died in Santa Cruz in 1994.
