Alberto Tipa

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alberto Tipa (* 1732 in Trapani ; † 1783 ibid) was an Italian sculptor of the late Baroque in Sicily .

Life

Alberto Tipa was the son of the sculptor Giuseppe Tipa and brother of Andrea Tipa (1725 - around 1766).

The Trapanese family business mainly created nativity scenes and thus formed an important link in this art tradition in Sicily. The material of the cribs consisted mostly of alabaster , ivory , coral and shells.

Tipa only used the local pink alabaster known as "Pietro Incarnata" for his larger sculptures.
