Alb plateaus around Hohenstadt and Drackenstein with the upper Gosbachtal is a landscape protection area in the district of Göppingen in Baden-Württemberg.

Location and description

The approximately 1483 hectare landscape protection area encompasses the entire boundaries of the municipalities of Drackenstein and Hohenstadt, with the exception of the locality with areas for structural development. It was created by ordinance of the District Office of Göppingen of January 15, 1997. At the same time, the ordinance of June 27, 1939 for the protection of summer sheep pastures and the ordinance of August 12, 1940 for the protection of landscape elements and landscape parts along the motorway expired.

The protected area belongs to the natural area 094- Middle Kuppenalb within the natural spatial main unit 09- Swabian Alb .

Protection purpose

According to the Protected Area Ordinance, the main protection purpose is the preservation of the diverse landscape of the Alb eaves in its natural peculiarity and beauty with the ecologically valuable upper Gosbachtal as well as the protection of the extensive landscape hedges with their special importance for the natural balance and the preservation of the protected area as an attractive recreational area for the general public.
